Focus on the Family
It is hard to find time to focus on the family. Monday through Friday, there is work and other errands. The weekend is the only time you can take care of the house, the yard and who knows what else. Finding time to give to your family is certainly not impossible, but with everything else that has to be done, it becomes quite a challenge. Without ever having bad intentions, your family can take the back seat.
Responsibilities
There are many parents out there who feel this way. Life is very demanding and it seems that no matter how hard you try, there is never enough of you to go around, let alone get some time to yourself. You deserve some credit for all that you have to do. So let’s make a list. Write down all of the things that you are responsible for in a given week. When you are done, read on.
It is probably safe to assume that the list you have created is not only long, but there are probably some items on that list that just can’t realistically be done. That is an important realization. If you expect yourself to get everything on that list done, then you are always going to fall short. You need to prioritize.
Focus on the Family through Prioritization
Reorder your list from most important to least important. Now, I’d like to say that family should be number one on your list, but I realize that certain other things have to be done. For example, let’s say that you are the breadwinner for your family. You’re going to have to put the task of providing for your family before spending time on them. It’s just the way things are.
On that list, where exactly is focusing on your family, or whatever else you want to call it? I’ll tell you where it should be. How much of that list can you say with certainty will be able to get done regularly? If focusing on your family is not on that section of the list, fix it. It is as simple as that. Is family important enough to you that it is worth pushing something else out of the list of things that will certainly get done? It is a simple decision. That decision may be hard to make for some people, but, through prioritization, many of you will be able to focus on your family.
